Library Hall lies in an area rich in history as described earlier.
With a healthy quantity of brick row houses, pre-war apartment
buildings and Victorian homes, the housing stock in Bergen Hill is
one of the finest on the Gold Coast and is experiencing rapid growth
as new construction and restorations continue. For this reason, the
Astor Place Neighborhood Association is working to get Bergen Hill
a coveted historic neighborhood designation from Jersey City. The
success of historically designated neighborhoods such as Hamilton
Park and Paulus Hook is certainly an enthusiastic sign. Strong
community support and a stream of investment dollars coming to
the area have kept optimism high and progress moving briskly.

Further stimulating the activity of the area are several large-scale developments which are bringing new housing, infrastructure, and services. The residential conversions of Whitlock Mills and the
Jersey City Medical Center will supply a large part of these additions.
Like Library Hall Lofts, both of these developments have respected
and maintained the historic character of their sites.

The Monticello Avenue Main Street program will be bringing the
walk-able commercial district back to Bergen Hill with restored
building facades, quality goods and services, and streetscape
details such as period lighting, new sidewalks and landscaping.
Additionally, the acres of land within the Morris Canal
Redevelopment zone that surround the area are slated for
hundreds of new single family homes, new roads and additional
retail services. Library Hall Lofts is central to all of this activity and
is a vital and enthusiastic participant as our renovation moves
forward and we welcome new homeowners to the neighborhood.
